RWU PRSSA Earns National Recognition

The RWU Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) has been honored with the prestigious Star Chapter Award for the 2023-24 academic year. This esteemed award recognizes chapters that demonstrate excellence in programming, leadership, and relationship-building opportunities for students, setting a high standard for other chapters nationwide.



Achieving Excellence Through Leadership and Innovation

Under the dedicated leadership of Alexandra Cos (SR), Victory Fahey (JR), Fionna Cashman (JR), and Richard Waterfall (SR), and with the guidance of advisor Dr. Amiee Shelton, the RWU PRSSA chapter has completed a variety of impactful activities:

  • High School Outreach: Creating learning opportunities with local high schools to inspire future public relations professionals.

  • Strengthened PRSA Relationship: Enhancing the partnership with the sponsoring PRSA chapter to provide more resources and opportunities for members.

  • Ethics in Meetings: Prioritizing ethical discussions and standards in all chapter meetings.

  • National Award Applications: Actively seeking national recognition by applying for PRSSA chapter awards.

  • Community Service: Participating in projects that give back to the community and foster a sense of social responsibility.

  • International Conference Attendance: Representing the chapter at the 2023 International Conference in Nashville TN and networking with professionals across the industry.

  • Media Exposure: Securing media coverage to highlight the chapter's achievements and activities in Roger Roundup with an article written by President Alexandra Cos.

  • Interdisciplinary Engagement: Inviting students from various disciplines to participate in chapter events including the Women in Business Club.

  • Alumni Events: Hosting events that connect current members with alumni for mentorship and networking with the first annual PRunch this past April.

  • Industry Speakers: Bringing in guest speakers from the public relations industry to share their expertise and experiences.

  • Site Visits: Organizing trips to leading PR firms in NYC and Boston to provide real-world insights and inspiration.

Founded in 1967, the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) is the premier organization for students pursuing careers in public relations and communications. PRSSA is dedicated to advocating for rigorous academic standards, upholding the highest ethical principles, and promoting professional diversity.

Since its inception, PRSSA has supported hundreds of thousands of student members by offering educational programs, resources, scholarships, and mentorship opportunities designed to prepare students for successful careers in communications. PRSSA chapters are on university and college campuses across the United States, as well as Argentina, Colombia, Peru, and Puerto Rico. The organization is headquartered in New York City and is guided by a National Committee comprising PRSSA and PRSA members.


The Roger Williams University PRSSA chapter chartered in 2005, continues to strive for excellence and make a significant impact on its members and the broader community.
